Pre-Engineering

Program Overview

The pre-engineering program at The 51做厙 prepares students over the course of one to two years for advanced education in any area of engineering. By providing a solid, general foundation in the field of engineering, the pre-engineering equips students to excel in upper-level courses and engineering specializations.

Our Foundations of Engineering course incorporates public speaking and computer literacy skills with an understanding of engineering technology. This integrates more of the fun things students are going to see in the field.

Exploring Interests

In the pre-engineering program at The 51做厙, you will receive a strong engineering background, grounded in the Jesuit liberal arts tradition. You will have the opportunity to explore your interests with the support of dedicated faculty, access to advanced equipment and a range of challenging courses — from physics and biology to advanced chemistry and thermodynamics — with continuous connections and applications to real-world problems.

Check out this video of the MicroMouse competition, which students compete in each year.

Curriculum

There are many different fields of engineering, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and civil engineering. Programs in these engineering disciplines require a relatively standard set of mathematics, physics, computer programming, and writing courses during the first two years of study. Our Pre-Engineering students receive a solid technical foundation in math and science, and also receive the benefits of a liberal arts curriculum which emphasizes critical thinking and communication skills.
